During his time at Chico State University, Edward played as an offensive lineman for the Chico State Wildcats football team from 1973 to 1976. He also played for a semi-professional California League team and attempted to join the Canadian Football League. 

Professional Life

After concluding his football career, Edward transitioned into the field of chiropractic care. He became a Sports Injury Specialist and Traditional Chiropractor, focusing on treating the underlying causes of pain rather than just the symptoms. He is a member of the American College of Sports Medicine. ​

In 1980, Edward married Darla Pittman Rodgers, a former college cheerleader and basketball player. The couple has three sons: Luke, Aaron, and Jordan. Edward's guidance and emphasis on discipline and hard work played a significant role in shaping his sons' athletic careers, particularly Aaron's journey to becoming an NFL quarterback. ​

Edward and Aaron experienced a period of estrangement starting in the early 2010s. However, they reconciled in the summer of 2023 during a private meeting. Edward and his wife attended Aaron's debut game with the New York Jets, marking a significant step in mending their relationship. ​
